When folks used to joke about the NYC lesbian community I thought they were joking. Meanwhile I just saw one of my tumblr moots in someone’s photo for their friend’s bumble profile.

Antisemitism in 30 minutes or less!
NYC Dyke March: we want it to be clear that we recognize the pain of the Jewish community and the rise in antisemitism. We want to make it clear that Jews are welcome and safe within our community.
~~~30 MINUTES LATER~~~
NYC Dyke March: Someone in our team posted saying Jews are safe and welcome in our community. We understand how hurtful this statement is and we want to make it clear that we are NOT antisemitic however, Jews are neither welcome nor safe in our community. We wish to reiterate again the fact that we are NOT antisemitic though.
Excerpt:
Edel said the archives were founded because she and members of a group called the Gay Academic Union, which worked to make academia more accepting of LGBTQ people in the ‘70s, began talking about how difficult it was to find reliable information about lesbian history.
“A few of us said, ‘Hey, why don’t we just start collecting our history? We’re the ones who best know what we need, what we want. Why let other people do that for us, because they’ll control our history?’” recalled Edel, who now splits her time between New Jersey and Arizona with her partner. “We were all people who really knew that our history was disappearing too quickly.”
[...]
The Lesbian Herstory Archives hosts a variety of events, such as a weekly “Lez Craft!” night on Thursdays. For its 50th anniversary, the organization is hosting a “Dyke Prom” in May at a loft in Brooklyn, though Edel noted that the event is already sold out.
When asked about goals for the next 50 years, she said the archives have outgrown the Brooklyn space and will need to move soon.
“Fifty years is too hard to say,” Edel said. “We leave that in the hands of the next generation. I certainly won’t be around, and I’m just hoping that it still will be mission-driven so that we reflect the amazing complexity of our communities.” /endquote
NYC Dyke March exclusion of "Zionists"
Reading about the exclusion of Jewish dykes from the NYC Dyke March, which was devoted to protesting against genocide, I'm really wondering why at least part of the LGBT community has been taken over by pro-Palestinian activism.
I didn't see any movement to support Ukraine after the Russian invasion - no "Queers for Ukraine." I don't see a Queer movement for people in Sudan caught between two armies that are committing massive human rights violations.
Why has the Palestinian cause taken over the energy of so many queer activists? And if it had to become the cause du jour, why has the exclusion of Jews become a central part of the cause for them? I know they're saying that they're excluding Zionists, not Jews, but since most Jews have a positive connection to, or at least opinion of Israel, they are actually excluding most Jews. And to remain a part of a group like the Dyke March as a Jew means you have to really dig into being anti-Zionists.
Listen up you idiot zoomers who think people can still make meaningful queer art past the year 2000. We all need to sit around and read USamerican comic strips from the 90s because those are pretty much the only true capture of the universal gay experience now and forever, and anything past that is unimportant schlock. And like pinkwashing I think. We have to learn queer history, thats why we need to all ignore that what Im talking about is joke comic strips from the 90s and instead revere them as the most important work created, with nothing capable of surpassing it. Anyway
